Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American actor, singer, and model. She is known for co-starring in the film of Prince's Purple Rain and for having been the lead singer of the group of girls Apollonia 6. Apollonia was a performer/singer christened by Prince in 1984 was one of the many female singers of the 1980s who benefitted from Prince. Patricia Kotero was born in Santa Monica, California in the year 1959. Her professional career began as a model in the latter part of 1970. Kotero also appeared on CHiPS. Kotero was the female lead for Prince's Purple Rain in 1984 (at the time he changed the name of her). The same year, she was replaced by Vanity as part of the group Vanity 6 and was a part of their name Apollonia 6 in the film. Sex Shooter from the soundtrack was a minor hit for her trio but when she was Prince's duet partner on Take Me with You she became more popular. Kotero was able to break up with Prince after the two fell out over the future of Apollonia 6. Kotero went on to be featured in various minor roles throughout this time (reportedly refusing to take part on her Purple Rain follow-up Under the Cherry Moon) before landing an appearance on the evening-time drama Falcon Crest during 1985-1986. Apollonia was the first artist to release her album in 1988, however it was a fairly pedestrian mix of dance and R&B music that did not really draw attention from the audience. The album was quickly wiped out of sight. She stayed active, if she wasn't in the spotlight as an actor during the decade that followed, with a few film and television roles. Even an exercise DVD was made available. Apollonia created a bilingual Spanish and English album titled Stay With Me. Following her return to the university she earned a bachelor's degree in filmmaking. Then she established her own business. Apollonia is a multi-faceted person. A former model, actress and singer as well as manager of talent. Purple Rain, the 1984 film that she was in, is her most recognizable part. In addition, she has been featured in several other movies and TV series, such as Black Magic Woman and The Divorce Ceremony. Kotero debuted her career as a model.
