Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father left the family members, she was raised up by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. When she was a young girl, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder, suffering anxiety related to associations with words. Ford was intrigued by the field of acting during her teen years, and joined National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just a few days, she realized that the school was not for her. Ford, instead of applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place after her third try, applied and won a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford didn't finish her studies until 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her debut on television in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre led her to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. However, Tate quickly began gaining attention for her stand-up comic and added stand-up comedy to her repertoire in 1996.
